Activity of Soil Profile

 

The children of Grade 4 actively participated in the Soil Profile activity. The ingredients used in this activity were soil, sand, gravel, pebbles, transparent glass and water bottle. The children put the pebbles in the bottle as this layer was called as the bed rock. Then they covered it with small stones, i.e., gravel which is called as the sub-soil. Then they covered it with soil, sand and humus which is called as the topsoil. The objective of the lesson was to design the soil profile and identify the different layers and the components of soil. The learning outcome of this activity was that the children were able to demonstrate the formation of soil profile.
