‘Christmas celebrated with a difference by adding smiles
to the faces of those from whom smiles are miles away’
A VISIT TO AN OLD AGE HOME BY TJIS, KANPUR
21st December, 2017
Truly there can be no better way of observing Christmas and welcoming New Year than becoming a Santa Claus for the abandoned elderly who are the pillars of society. ‘Service above Self’ is not without rewards; it should be the topmost priority of every institution and is the best way of inculcating values of life in the school children.
Before giving an element of celebration to Christmas, the students of The Jain International School added a new dimension to their festivities by paying a visit to The Swaraj Vradha Ashram on 21st December, 2017 and bringing smiles to the faces of neglected and discarded elders. Love and kindness is never wasted; it makes differences in the lives of both who give and those who receive.
A group of 35 students along with the faculty members visited the Old Age Home. There they presented a short cultural programme to entertain the Grand Ma’s and Grand Pa’s whose happy and excited faces can’t be described in words. A generous voluntary contribution was made by the students which comprised of Christmas Cakes, edibles, toiletries, medicines, clothing, woolens, etc. This collection was handed over to the inmates of the Old Age Home.
This was a small effort on the part of our young team to bring smiles to the faces of those from whom smiles are miles away. The greatest reward for someone involved in Service above Self is the spark on the faces of those whom he or she has helped and this adds to the treasure of bliss.
We can continue to accomplish all we can for the greater good of helping those in need. After all, one way to make a true impact on others is to live out the term, service above self. Giving yourself to the service of others is life’s fulfillment.
