Promote an awareness of the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst the youth of our country through focus on classical arts
SPIC MACAY is an affirmation of a priceless cultural heritage. The organisation seeks to conserve and promote an awareness of the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst the youth of our country through focus on classical arts, with their attendant legends and philosophy and to facilitate an awareness of their deeper and subtler values. The movement incorporates what is actually their birthright, namely their heritage, roots and identity. It seeks to provoke thought and a genuine spirit of enquiry in the young.
In August, this year, at The Jain International School we started a journey with SPIC MACAY with a noble cause to enrich the quality of formal education by increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage through Dance and Music, Folk, Poetry, Theatre, Traditional Paintings, Crafts & Yoga primarily in schools and colleges with a hope that the beauty, grace, values and wisdom embodied in these arts will influence their way of life and thinking and inspire one to become a better human being.
For this, the most accomplished troupe of sixteen dance artists of the country viz. Peasanta Mahato Sadhu Mahato, Budhu Mudi, Kirtan Bagdi, Pitambar Bagdi, Amit Bouri, Nirmal Sahis, Kanai Sahis, Dipak Karmakar, Bibhuti Mahato , Parasuram Mahato , Kartik Sahis, Parikshit Mahato and Uttam Mahato with their trope leader Tarapada Rajak visited the school on Thursday, 23rd November, 2017 and awe struck the students with their stupendous performance of Chhau dance depicting Mahishasur Mardini
Chhau is a semi classical Indian dance with martial, tribal and folk origins with origins in the states of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The eventful morning began with the auspicious lighting of the lamp. Respected Principal Mr M.K.Panda and Headmistress Mrs. Soumee Sarkar welcomed the troupe members and expressed their gratitude for their marvellous performance. They duly felicitated them with a token of love and reverence from the entire TJIS Family.
Navya Gupta of Class 11th C held the reins of the programme till the end.
