Art & Design has always formed the mainstream of Global Design Education. With the propagation of digital media, easy access to information, economic growth and rise of the aspirational students seeking upward mobility, fashion and luxury are being redefined like never before. Clothing, accessories and lifestyle products aren’t simply being created to fulfil utilitarian needs. Users across the world are seeking increasingly sophisticated aesthetic experiences. International Fashion houses and labels are sourcing designers trans-nationally with expertise in varied techniques, crafts, materials and an understanding of global-markets, cultures, and technological innovations in the field.
Consequently a Bachelor of Design is one of the most sought after courses around the world now-a-days. Indian Institute of Art & Design (IIAD) in collaboration with Kingston University, London, is one of the world-class design institutes in Delhi that offers three rigorous Bachelor degree programmes in Fashion Design, Interior Architecture & Design and Communication Design at its campus in New Delhi.
On Thursday, 9th September, Ms Nikita Singh and Vani Dua from IIAD conducted a design workshop in our school campus for the students of Classes 11th and 12th. It was an activity based workshop where the students learnt to employ their hidden design skills in a fun and collaborative environment. The students not only got an opportunity to create and manipulate designs and shapes but also discussed careers and opportunities in the field of Design and Creativity.
Holistic design education has 4 essential components - context, process, design realisation and self & professional development. Therefore, these 4 components form the essence of IIAD’s Fashion Design curriculum and are taught in the form of 4 continuous modules over the course of 3 years.
Overall the workshop was very interesting and interactive. We hope that the students aspiring for career in the field of Designing will gain a lot from this experience.
