UNESCO has declared 21stFebruary every year as ‘International Mother Language Day’ to promote the dissemination of mother tongues and fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.
To mark this day several activities were conducted on Saturday, 21st February in The Jain International School to promote the use and importance of Mother Tongue Hindi. The day commenced with a Special Assembly which was organised by students of grade 6. The assembly was conducted by Shaurya Sharad Shukla in Hindi. Shraddha Gupta spoke on the Importance of Mother Tongue.
Later on an Inter and Intra class Collage Competition was also held for students of grades 6, 7 and 8 on the topic ‘Promoters of Mother Tongue – Hindi’in which they showed their creativity by pasting pictures of great poets, writers and scholars who promoted the use of Hindi language.
The objective behind celebrating MatrubhashaDiwas includes sensitising people about the need for greater use of mother tongue and other Indian languages. It also aims at highlighting the need to impart among the students, the communication skills and proficiency in mother tongue and other Indian languages.
